Celebrities take a stand (26/04/2016)

Everyone knows the original version of “We are the World” written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. This charitable song, released in 1985, was interpreted by “USA for Africa”, a group composed of many American stars who took a stand to support the action. The money was collected to fight against starvation in Ethiopia. But the problem is that horror is timeless and 25 years later, it’s Haiti which needs help in order to bring countless people out of the misery into which earthquakes plunged them. Another band of stars of all ages, (like Jimmy Fox said at the beginning of the video), decide to resume the song and to interpret it for Haiti. This new version is as touching as the previous one. The video includes “two main parts” which are shown alternately. The first part is when we can see singers like Miley Cirus, Justin Bieber, Céline Dion, Kanye West, Adam Levine, Pink and 32 others interpreting a sentence of the song one after the other. The other part is composed by troubling pictures of Haitians, smiles on their faces, who are amongst the ruins which cover every piece of ground. The words are as strong as in the first version. They encourage us to give, not only our money but also our heart to “these people who don’t have the right to suffer” because “we are the world” and we can’t keep on ignoring them and saying that someone will be able to help them better and that we can’t do something at our level. Everything can be done when we are united. Let us be the world, let us be Haitians and still today, they need our help so prove them that you want to “light their dark night”.
